I had free rein to include sunflowers in the design of this luxury apartment which was a very exciting prospect. I knew I didn’t want to dominate the rich neutral palette with the overpowering yellow of a sunflower, so I turned my attention to representing the realism of the sunflower without compromising on the aesthetic.
The result is an incredible series of intricate plaster clusters in the form of art pieces and an amazing light installation brought together working with a highly skilled team of artists. Logistically tricky, it took a great deal of time with the artist, builder and electrician to find ways to fit the pieces without the fixtures being visible, but thankfully they were brilliant and together we came up with a solution.
“The creation of the sunflowers was a painstakingly detailed process. I commissioned a prototype, which allowed me to test installation techniques that allowed them to hang at different heights from the ceiling which distributed the light in the way I wanted. What’s so beautiful is how they change in appearance depending on the light, they are a real feature and represent my clients personality so well.”
